XReal has been flying widely under the radar here in the States. The Air 2 Pro AR glasses from the Beijing company received some criticism at the end of last year, but the product is rarely noticed among the world’s Metas, Apples, and HTCs when it comes to mixed reality.
This week, the company is presenting the Beam Pro at the AWE (Augmented World Expo) conference in Southern California. The device looks like an Android phone and quacks like an Android phone, but it’s not really an Android phone. Instead, it is a mobile device designed specifically for XReal’s glasses.
IIn essence, the Beam Pro was designed to provide Google Play apps for the glasses in the “3D space.” XReal writes: “As the ultimate companion device for XReal glasses, XReal Beam Pro provides users with an easy way to access all their favorite apps, social media content, streaming entertainment, professional requirements, and gaming platforms in a stunning 3D-enabled environment.”
Advanced Technology and AI Integration
The Snapdragon-powered device runs Android 14 and has a pair of 50-megapixel cameras for capturing 3D images and spatial videos, but it is extremely specialized and does not aim to replace your mobile phone. It’s certainly a unique approach—one that harks back to a bygone era when people owned iPod Touch in addition to iPhones. There’s a bit of Amazon Fire Phone DNA about the 3D cameras, but the less said about it, the better.
“The average user will immediately recognize the smartphone-like form factor,” the company writes. “In terms of connectivity, XReal Beam Pro offers two USB ports for simultaneous use with XReal glasses while charging. 27 W fast charging means that battery anxiety is a thing of the past during a binge-watching or gaming session.”
Specifications and Performance
Other specifications are what you would expect from such a device. These include a 6.5-inch display (2400 x 1080), 6 or 8 GB of RAM, and 128 or 256 GB of memory—not exactly flagship numbers. There is a Wi-Fi-only option, as well as one with 5G, making it quite similar to a phone.
XReal is building its proprietary NebulaOS software layer on Android. The skin was developed to set 2D apps in 3D and at the same time offers a unique interface with the system.
Bringing AI and Algorithms to AR
The integration of advanced AI algorithms and cutting-edge technology into the Beam Pro enhances its capabilities, making it a powerful companion for AR experiences. By utilizing AI, users can interact with apps and content in a 3D space with minimal effort. This is similar to how the Ultimate AI Trading Bot uses sophisticated algorithms to provide seamless and efficient trading experiences.
“It’s definitely worth seeing how companies like XReal are bringing new devices into the ecosystem and making them more accessible,” said Sahil Bansal, senior director of Qualcomm, in a statement. Other big names include Nvidia via off-device CloudXR technology and Amazon Web Services.
Final Thoughts
XReal’s Beam Pro is a bold step forward in the AR ecosystem, bringing the power of Android apps to AR glasses with a device specifically designed for this purpose. With its integration of AI, advanced algorithms, and cutting-edge technology, the Beam Pro offers a unique and efficient way to experience mixed reality. As more companies like XReal continue to innovate, the future of AR looks increasingly promising and accessible.
